UV/VIS Analysis
Microtest offers advanced pharmaceutical testing services and numerous original methodologies stemming from standard protocols. However, many customers appreciate the convenience of having multiple types of assays performed at one location. So as a single-source laboratory, we also provide basic pharmaceutical services such as UV/VIS analysis.
Since different chemical groups absorb light at different wavelengths, UV/VIS technology uses ultraviolet or visible light to excite molecules in assay samples, then detect the resulting distinctive absorption signatures. Microtest chemists use industry-standard tools such as the Spectronic GENESYS spectrophotometer from Thermo Electron.
In identification testing, compounds may be recognized based on the wavelength at which they absorb UV-VIS light. This type of UV/VIS testing is cited in several publications of the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP).
In concentration testing, the amount of a compound present in a mixture may be determined by how much light is absorbed at a certain wavelength. Subjects tested include the following:
• Proteins
• Oligonucleotides
• Peptides
• Small molecules
